About the artist
Jöran Steinhauer is a German singer-songwriter, host and project creator active primarily in Latvia.
He first gained wider public attention in 2013 with Paldies Latiņam, a Latvian-language farewell song to the national currency shortly before Latvia adopted the euro. The following year, as the singer of Aarzemnieki, he represented Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen with Cake to Bake.
Steinhauer continued working independently as a musician and host after Eurovision. His work has included solo releases, the album Jollytown, music for the Latvian Television documentary Šteinhauers un Blūms, and numerous live and media projects.
Alongside music, he has increasingly developed cultural, language and participation projects, often in cooperation with schools and public institutions. These have included projects with the Goethe-Institut, the DAAD, the European Parliament and diplomatic missions in Latvia. In 2023 he launched LV81, a project aiming to perform in all of Latvia’s cities - LV81.lv.
In 2026 he created and artistically directed the German-language school choir project Deutschkoris, bringing together more than 200 young participants from schools across Latvia.
"That's the beauty of a song: It has a past, a present and a future. I am the witness of all stages."
Born in Witten and raised in Bochum, Steinhauer first came to Latvia as an exchange student in 2005. His long-term relationship with Latvia, its language and its people has since become a recurring part of both his music and his public work.
Alongside music and hosting, Jöran Steinhauer has been developing and implementing cultural, educational and participation projects for more than a decade, often in cooperation with diplomatic missions, cultural institutes, schools and public institutions in Latvia.
